چکیده

Intracellular free calcium concentration [Ca ] has been extensively studied as a major feedback element, transducing endogenous levels of electrical activity into an intracellular signal, in the context of modeling activity-dependent changes of ionic conductances of a neuronal membrane patch through slow biochemical subcellular mechanisms. However, distinct patterns of activity may induce similar mean levels in [Ca ] so that a multiple sensing mechanism, integrating and matching the features of calcium temporal dynamics over various time scales, is needed to overcome such ambiguous situations. In the present research, we investigate the possible role of a metabolic sensor, related to the power dissipated by the passive ion transport through channels, as an alternative candidate in intracellular calcium independent signal transduction of the electrophysiological activity. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. The Expression of Signal Regulatory Protein-alpha in Normal and Osteoarthritic Human Articular Cartilage and Its Involvement in Chondrocyte Mechano-transduction Response

Signal regulatory proteins (SIRP) belong to immunoglobulin super family (IgSF) and relate to integrin signaling cascades. It has been shown that SIRPa is expressed in a variety of cells including myeloid cells and neurons. In the present study the expression of this IgSF member in articular chondrocytes was investigated. Methods: Using a panel of anti-SIRPalpha antibodies, immunohistochemistry...

The Jak-Stat Signaling Pathway of Interferons System: Snapshots

Interferons (IFNs) are a family of small regulatory glycoproteins that play a central role in the defense against viral infections. Although IFNs have been initially discovered as antiviral factors, today they are known as an integral part of the cytokine network that affect a wide range of biological processes. IFNs exert their pleiotropic effects through their multisubunit cell surface recept...

The Canonical Wnt Signaling (Wnt/β-Catenin Pathway): A Potential Target for Cancer Prevention and Therapy

Precise regulation of signal transduction pathways is crucial for normal animal development and for maintaining cellular and tissue homeostasis in adults. The Wnt/Frizzled-mediated signaling includes canonical and non-canonical signal transduction pathways. Upregulation or downregulation of the canonical Wnt-signaling (or the Wnt/β-Catenin signal transduction) leads to a variety of human diseas...

Genomics view of gonadotrope signaling circuits.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) binds to the pituitary GnRH receptor to activate signal transduction cascades that ultimately modulate gonadotropin biosynthesis. Comprehensive studies of the GnRH-activated gene program in the LbetaT2 gonadotrope cell line have greatly increased our knowledge of the number of early and intermediate gene transcripts that are modulated by GnRH. Among the cla...
